8 Steps to Great Animation Production

Is this your first time around?

Below is a checklist of what a production studio will need from you in order to create a great animated video. It is not everyday that you decide to take on an animated project, so we have broken down the process for you to ensure you make a great animated video.

1. An Outline

To get started with a studio the ONLY THING you need to provide is an outline of your message and a link to your website! The studio can then assign a writer, a team of artists and get cranking!

2. A Script

When we say script, we mean the words only, not the visuals. While an organization’s insight into visuals is very useful, a studio’s profession is that very task. They can take care of that for you for sure! (Our studio only needs 80% of a script to get started.) Side

Note: 140 words can be spoken in a minute. Keep this in mind if you have a strict time limit.

3. Logos

While many company logos can be found on the internet the logo is often small and not video-ready. Studios prefer vector logos. The file extensions to vector logos are: .ai, .eps, .png, or .psd!

4. Select Images

What images are specifically addressed in your script? Many images can be easily accessed via your website or a simple Google search. However, image quality can also be an issue. Often, the larger the file size the better the quality, so send out a few emails to obtain quality images for your project. Oh... and don’t worry too much about it if you have 80% of a script. A studio can handle everything for you!

5. More Images

We are often asked if we can receive too many images. The answer is No! We’d rather have too many images than not enough! So send us everything you’ve got!

No Images? Don’t worry! We can Google all kinds of things! The internet is filled with a mind blowing amount of images! Remember that’s your studio’s job. We can provide all kinds of excellent images.

6. Web pages and Domains

Your studio will appreciate having links to everything discussed in your script. It’s even useful to provide a few competitor links.

7. Videos Of The Subject

The best thing to provide your studio with is previous videos about your subject. Don’t worry about your studio being affected by a previous video. They know how to critique and understand the creative process. What they need is powerful insight into your industry, culture and climate of your message. Previous videos do that better than anything else, even competitor videos!

8. Script Side By Side

A side-by-side script is a word document that has the voice over listed in a column on the left hand side and the visuals your team envisions on the right.

It’s not necessary to provide this. As stated above, an organization’s insight into visuals is useful, but a studio makes a living out of providing the right visuals! However, if you and your team have the time and feel inspired, take a stab at a side-by-side! If you do that, be sure to assign one visual per sentence. If it takes more than a sentence to describe your visual, then there is probably not enough time for your visual to be seen on screen. The voice over and the visual should have a one to one ratio. But don’t worry too much about it! If you have gotten to this point you are probably at a great place to kick off your project and put it into professional hands!

You're Ready To Go!
