How to Make "Dry" Videos Fun

Posted by Ryan Geiger
Sometimes we get work from clients that could be thought of as "dry" or "corporate." Thankfully we specialize in making a video about any topic fun and entertaining for the audience. Read our list of tips that we follow to constantly create fun videos like this one about phishing links:

1. Don't be scared to be creative.

Most businesses want to be safe and don't think outside the box - they only think about explaining dry topics by being literal - text on screen, powerpoint style graphics, etc...

2. Instead of using the exact image of something, think outside the box.

If you're talking about time span don't show a calendar, maybe show a picture of something changing with the seasons, etc.

3. People understand metaphors.

You don't always need to spell it out to people - they'll understand a metaphor and it may even resonate with them more (relating an inbox to a minefield, depicting hackers as classic cinema thieves, etc.) This hits home for viewers and they'll understand the information better.

4. Be playful

Keeping your audience's attention through the whole video by being playful will allow you to get your entire message across.

5. Be memorable.

Being memorable will be more effective and also may cause water cooler talk, increasing exposure and viewership

6. Let the art be art.

Don't always stick to safe depictions of things - dare to have the art be comical or more artistic than your typical marketing materials. (have your characters be cartoony - they don't have to be realistic to be taken seriously)
