What is Performance Drawing?

Performance Drawing, Live Draw, or Drawing Live, is an artist drawing on a stage for an audience. Performance drawing is a powerful complement to company meetings and speeches because it magnifies a company’s vision. Audiences love watching artists at work as they underscore and enhance everything that is said. In the end, a work of art generates conversation, amplifies ideas and gets a company’s creative juices flowing. Performance drawing transforms meetings from a chore into a thriving center of innovation. Team members literally see their ideas come to life. Once the meeting is over the company meeting is forever embodied through a work of art.

Performance Drawing

What kinds of performance drawing are there?

Drawing itself is as varied as there are types of art. But besides the art itself there are various ways to plan for a performance drawing event.

Spontaneous performance drawing

The first and simplest step is spontaneous drawing. Spontaneous drawing is just what it says. It is simply an artist showing up to an event and drawing on a board for an audience. Spontaneous drawing requires a half-hour phone call about the event, a whiteboard and markers!

Pre-Drawn Performance Drawing

An artist spontaneously drawing at an event sounds great, and it is. But if an artist can prepare artwork before an event, their work can seem like magic! At most events the speakers and the audience can often predict 70% of what will be said. Knowing that, an artist and a company can plan ahead for each work of art and the look of all of the pieces of art coming together -- the final mural.

With various tricks, an artist can look like they are drawing an amazing work of art AND incorporate audience feedback on a live basis! In addition, if the art is prepped beforehand, then it can also be a print-ready graphic for handouts, websites, videos, etc.! Not to mention, the event can also be filmed live and turned into a whiteboard animation!
