Our Top Ten Whiteboard Animations

Posted by Steve Day

Over the past decade, we have seen a lot of Whiteboard Videos. Below is our list of the top ten whiteboard videos.

10.  Charles Duhigg – Best Teams

It didn’t take Audible long before it too made a whiteboard video. Duhigg uses Lorne Michaels an example of someone who created a great team, by creating psychological safety between his team members. This video does an excellent job of demonstrating Duhiggs points through the magic of whiteboard video!

9. Red Bull’s Whiteboard series

Red Bull has been making whiteboard animations for years. Artists need Red Bull fuel everyday. What better way to reach them than through quirky characters and funny plot twists.

8. WWF and William Shatner’s New Hope for Climate Change

World Wildlife Fund’s whiteboard video takes a classic whiteboard video approach. With just the right amount of colorful charm and urgency, WWF and William Shatner compel audiences to take action in curbing climate change for a clean energy economy.

7. UPS Whiteboard Videos

In 2007, UPS spent $35 million dollars to create whiteboard explainer videos sparking the whiteboard video trend. These 30 second commercials became the epitome of successful whiteboard videos, strengthening UPS as a brand and changing the way we understand domestic and international shipping.

6. Unilever and the NCAA

The Final Four is serious business for March Madness fans, and Unilever is serious about men's grooming. The challenge of this ad was to create a spot that would convience women to buy a men's product. Since women do most of the shopping for men's grooming products, this ad had to appeal to her, to impact him.

5. Weird Al Yankovich - Missions Statement

We were pleased when we saw this 2014 Weird Al Yankovich music video because the video expresses what we all too often encounter with companies--meaningless words that keep the status quo. The video is quite monotonous, but that's the point ! Enjoy Weird Al's jab at stagnant corporate culture.

4. Content 2020 by Coca Cola

Posted 2011, as a leading global brand, Coca-Cola has always led the charge when it comes to marketing innovation. VP Jonathan Mildenhall narrates this animation. Sharing how Coke planned to utilize the internet so that "every contact point with a customer should tell an emotional story".

3. The Marker Maker by Jonny Lawrence

In 2010, this video was one of the earliest whiteboard videos to catch fire on YouTube. We love this animation because it’s so creative. Here is one of the earliest, extremely creative, whiteboard videos.

2. Drive: The surprising truth about what motivates us

Many years ago, the Royal Society of the Arts and the Ted Talks teamed up to create a series of animations that brought whiteboard videos to the public. This speech by Dan Pink was one of the break-through videos. If anyone is to be credited with founding the whiteboard animation style, it would be Andrew Park. Enjoy

1. Hitchhiker's Choice by Kristofer Ström

This might be the video that started it all. Posted in November 2006, a year after YouTube came into existence. Just like the Marker Maker, this video is classic trippy college-student fun.
